Cellular Phone Rental
For the convenience of University departments, the UW Technology Service Center has purchased several cellular telephones and made them available as rental units.
The rental charges are $5.00 per month, or a fraction thereof, plus $.24 cents per minute for airtime (both incoming and outgoing calls). Additionally, the renting department is responsible for the cost of any long distance calls and roaming charges that is, charges incurred when the telephone is used to make or receive calls outside of the state of Washington. The renting department is also responsible for any damage or loss to the phone or its accessories.
Departments are encouraged to purchase cellular phones if the planned rental period is longer than two or three months, particularly if the phones will be used extensively.
Reservations for these phones should be made in advance by sending e-mail to help@u.washington.edu or by calling 206-221-5000. Lost or Stolen Cellular Phones
If a cellular telephone is lost or stolen,it is extremely important for cell phone users to immediately relay this information to the UW Technology Service Center. In turn, UW Technology will contact the appropriate cellular telephone carrier and placed the cellular telephone account in "suspended" status. Therefore, the accrual of unauthorized charges can be avoided or minimized.
Please follow these procedures to report lost or stolen cellular telephones:
- Place the cellular telephone service in SUSPENDED mode and call:
- During the business hours (between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.)
- UW Technology Service Center Cellular
- Office: 206-221-5000
- Email: help@u.washington.edu
- After the business hours (after 5:00 P.M.)
- AT&T Mobility (formerly Cingular Wireless): 1-800-888-7600
- Nextel: 1-800-639-6111
- T-Mobile: 1-800-937-8997
- Verizon Wireless: 1-800-922-0204
- Inform the police: In addition to having the lost or stolen cellular
telephone
suspended, please report the lost or stolen cellular telephone to the appropriate police
department, depending on where the loss or theft occurred.
NOTE: UW Police Department will take a report for either a lost or a stolen phone that is UW property. A local police agency, including Seattle Police Department, will most likely only take a report for a stolen phone.
- If the cellular telephone is lost or stolen on campus Call UW Police Department at 206-543-9331 to make a report.
- If the cellular telephone is lost or stolen outside of UW campuses Contact the local police agency where the crime occurred.
Please contact UW Technology to advise that your phone has been lost or stolen:
