Ethernet Installation

Ethernet technology allows for high-speed connection to the campus computer network, the Internet, and the World Wide Web. Data transmission rates on the Ethernet are much faster than those available by standard modem.

Most UW buildings are already on the campus fiber network, and Ethernet service is available to UW faculty and staff for a one-time installation fee. Currently, there is no recurring charge to Ethernet users on the campus fiber network. Off-campus Ethernet service is also available, but is more expensive, as data lines, hubs, and routers must be leased by the user departments.

For more information on Ethernet installation, contact the UW Technology Service Center by sending email to help@u.washington.edu or by calling 206-221-5000.

Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN)

ISDN digital telephone service is available on campus and at residential locations in metropolitan Seattle. ISDN provides up to 128kb data transmission for videoconferencing and remote Ethernet applications.

For more information on ISDN, contact the UW Technology Service Center by sending email to help@u.washington.edu or by calling 206-221-5000.
